I don’t know you, as we haven’t met yet. But I speak with lots of people just like you every year. You’re thinking about doing a theology degree, as it combines your passion for God with a qualification from a university… But you haven’t decided where to study. You have been looking into a few universities and may have already been to an open day or two. And now you have come across Reign Ministries?
My name is Pete and I head up the degree team for Reign Ministries and each year I talk with loads of prospective students. A common question I get asked is what is unique or different about the degree that Reign Ministries offers through ForMission College (and awarded by Newman University)? I could answer this in many ways, but my usual answer is around location!
Unlike traditional universities, if you study with Reign Ministries you may not have to leave home, and you won’t move into halls or live on the university campus. We offer a different style of study. You stay at home and work in your own church or youth ministry setting. Alternatively we can help you find a placement church if that’s better for your circumstances.
Each student receives credit for their work-based learning placement. This counts towards your qualification, alongside the study and essays you complete. Studying in this way enables students to be located all over the UK, from the Isle of Wight to Stirling, from Cambridge to North Berwick, from Coleraine to Chipping Norton. We even have previously had students from Germany and Austria on the degree course.
A benefit of this is that when you graduate, you will hopefully understand the youth culture in YOUR community much better than someone who has lived on campus away from their home. Every church, youth ministry and town is different from each other. Just as unique as your fingerprint (but not as useful for unlocking your phone…).
Students still get to connect with other students regularly through our residential training conferences and weekly cluster groups. But unlike most conventional universities there isn’t the transition of getting to know a city and lots of new people. Many of our students come to the degree already working with, and impacting the lives of, young people in their town.
You don’t have to move away from home and learn about youth work in a classroom for one particular culture; learn how to be a catalyst for change in your own hometown.
Are you after an adventure from home? Do you want to make a difference to your church or young people you already know? Then why don’t you see what we have to offer you at Reign Ministries.

What is an Intensive Learning Week? This week (November 2021) our degree students are all meeting together for our second Intensive Learning Week (We call them ‘Conference’!) of this academic year. These Intensive Learning Weeks happen bi-monthly, and are an integral part of life as a degree student with Reign Ministries. It is here that […]
We recently asked one of our mature students to tell us a little bit about his story and how he came to be studying with Reign Ministries. We love to be reminded that God’s plans have no expiration date, and that they don’t always match the assumptions in our heads. Hi Everyone… My name is […]
The last few years (2020/21) saw students across the country being sent away from their universities to adopt a new way of studying from home. And whilst Reign Ministries embraced online learning, it wasn’t something we were unfamiliar with. For Reign Ministries, the concept of a hybrid learning model is not something that has just […]
