Have you ever been called by God to something and then felt unsure about it? Our alumni student Josh initially felt that he didn’t have what he needed to train as a youth minister. But he stepped out in faith and grew as a result. Read his story below!
Josh’s Story
Hello, my name is Josh and I am a Reign Ministries alumni student. I’m based in Gorebridge, Scotland and I’m thoroughly enjoying the degree course. I had always planned on going into higher education after high school and have always been very determined on having a career in some form of youth work. However, youth ministry had never even crossed my mind until just a few years ago.
After finishing high school without any solid plans, I became quite stressed out about what I was going to do. I had only been a Christian for 4 years and had been leading in our youth activities for less than a year. So, when my youth minister suggested I joined this course my initial reaction was to run away, in the opposite direction, screaming! I felt as though I was barely able to be a leader to one young person, never mind a full group. I also thought my knowledge and understanding of the Bible was very minimal.
Despite having these concerns, I went away and spent a few days praying about the idea. I started to feel a tug from God towards ministry, but I was still unsure. I then decided that if my youth minister, personal mentors, and God were all saying do it, then I should at least give it a shot.
Looking back, I realise that I was being incredibly harsh on myself in regard to my own skills. I’d adapted the unhealthy mindset of thinking that in order to study to become a youth minister I would need to somehow already be one, which is ridiculous!
Now that I have graduated, I am extremely glad that I joined the Reign Ministries Degree programme. I know more than ever that we are all on a journey and this, like many situations in life, is a learning experience. I was taught the skills and the Biblical knowledge that I knew I was lacking, all whilst having a supportive community alongside me on the journey.

Why Disciple Making? Making disciples is at the heart of Reign Ministries. One of our key goals is to see a movement of disciple making communities all across the UK.
