Now more than ever churches are having to monitor their resources very closely. Prioritising where we place our churches time and energy is a challenging task. However, here are three reasons why investing in youth leaders and young people is so important.
Working with young people can seem daunting and let’s face it sometimes they have strange ideas. It’s these challenges, and little ideas that keep the church sharp and help us to reach out to people who have no relationship with God. A lot of good cultural changes that we have been able to apply to our wider ministries have come from our youth ministry.
The fact is that 1 out of 1 people eventually die. Everyone likes the idea that their investment in church will last beyond their years because we worked hard and did a good job. However, unless we are actively investing in young people, and raise up new young leaders, the church and our ministry will grow old and eventually shrink. Young people are very teachable, and when they mature, they lighten the load for us, bringing more energy than what we can possibly deliver. It also frees us up to reinvest our time.
It’s always a privilege to see young Christians and young leaders growing in faith and falling in love with God. When a church sees that their hard work is making a difference they will be encouraged, grow in faith, and will continue to stay engaged in church life.
