ce a fortnight I help one of the R.E. staff with a class she runs for year 11 (15-16 year olds) students studying work related skills. This class is a time given for the students to work on coursework for that subject. Over the past few months one of the girls has been talking to me a lot about her dreams for her future and her relationships with family and friends. She really desires to be a jockey and has her heart set on that career path. I have conversations with her about this and she has shared about job’s she has done in this field and also interviews she has had. She has been provisionally accepted into a jockey school on the basis she gets certain grades in her GCSEs (secondary school education qualifications).
Recently I came into the class and this girl had a different topic of conversation in mind…she was asking the question what is truth. As she was trying to figure what does truth really mean and what things are true, this brought about a genuine opportunity for me to share about what I believe to be true about God, Jesus and the Bible. The outcome of the conversation was good, and it seemed like there was a peace about knowing you can be certain of some things being true. Also it left her with more questions, which I believe is the key to helping people grow whether they know God or not. This puts them in the position of having to wrestle with a new thought or view and also gives them the choice whether to ask the new question or not.
