Today we would like to introduce you to Amelia Kear, a student in the ICY-UK missional leadership course. She is sharing with us about her experience in the programme…
-How has God impacted your life through this experience?
I found out about ICY-UK in a really confusing time in my life, a time when I felt lost, with no direction and no guidance. Taking this year to do a missional leaders course with ICY-UK was the best thing I could have done.
I felt called to some kind of leadership for God but I wasn’t sure how that would develop, so rather that jumping right into a degree I wanted to take the time to find out where exactly God wanted me to be.
ICY-UK missional leaders’ course has helped me to get a grasp on who I am in Christ, how to best live for him and what it means to be a leader. Meanwhile, with the help of the ICY-UK family and this course, God has prepared and equipped me and helped me realise the ministry I am meant to be in. It has given me the guidance I needed.
-How has God used you in the lives of young people this year?
I am the only youthworker in the Parish which I have been placed in, so simply having a leader has greatly impacted the youth in the church, as they now have more ways in which they can learn about God, outside of Sunday mornings.
I have done a lot of work with girls in the church, girls who were crying out for guidance, and simply an ear to listen. God has worked hugely in these relationships, allowing the girls to be open and honest with each other and me, which has helped draw them nearer to an open relationship with the father.
Not only has there been a noticeable impact in the church youth, but God led me to many other situations and groups outside the church in which there needed to be movement of the spirit. In these groups I have begun to build relationships and through the trust that those relationships build, youth that have had no spiritual or even loving input in their lives, have become so much more open to the idea of God. You can see the transitions before your eyes, it is so wonderful to see.
The Lord has used me in the lives of these youth so dramatically, God is good.
-How would you explain your experience to someone?
It has been such a fulfilling experience in which you get to glimpse Gods work all around you and are equipped with tools to better prepare you to bring God’s glory into the ministry you are in. I have grown and learnt so much. I wouldn’t take back this experience for the world.
-What is the best part of the experience?
There is so much about this course that makes it a brilliant experience; the practical experience of the placement, the skills you acquire, the things you learn, but the best part by far is the family you gain. So accepting, loving, willing, it is inspirational to learn from them; both leaders and students. God is in every one of these relationships and each one glorifies him. I am so thankful for this experience.
